Prophet Walter Magaya deserves respect and support on cure claims

Claims of an HIV and Aids cure is not the issue at the moment. There is need of understanding the condition and be able to authenticate the claims that a drug can or has been found to cure HIV and Aids.

Prophet Walter Magaya a leader of Prophetic, Healing and Deliverance Ministries told his followers last Sunday that he had found or ‘discovered’ a cure for HIV and Aids. His statements of ‘discovering’ a possible cure has sent tongues wagging and the Ministry of Health and Child Care has openly castigated the’ Magaya Claims’ as frivolous untimely, unscientific and baseless.

Is it wrong for someone to claim that they have discovered the elusive cure of HIV and Aids? Prophet Walter Magaya deserves respect and support from Zimbabweans Africa and the world at large for his ‘breakthrough ‘ efforts in his quest for discovering a cure for HIV and Aids. Had it not been a sangoma or a traditional healer, herbalist or possibly had it not been a ‘doctor’ from Europe, Asia, United kingdom, China or USA or any of the influential international countries, this claim by Prophet Walter Magaya could not have been dismissed outrightly. A prophet is not respected in his community or country becomes a reality at the backdrop of hostile response to the Prophet claims. It is unfortunate that Zimbabweans do not respect its prophets, traditional leaders and its homegrown medical scientists who have made previous claims of finding an HIV and Aids cure. How can Africa find a cure for HIV and Aids, whilst it denigrate and crucify those brave enough to announce their claims in public? Should Africans wait for a cure for HIV and Aids to come from China, USA or from any other continent? How long should Zimbabweans continue to gobble up herbal concoctions from China as possible suppressors  of HIV and Aids?

“There is a lot we can learn from traditional medicines and it is high time we should talk about it in publicly, like in any medical practice it is incumbent upon our traditional healers to record everything they do in practice so that they have records.  A big problem with traditional healers is that usually there is no follow up system and records of the’ cure’,  said Ambuya Erenia Govere a  herbalist of repute.

” God has given me a revelation, we tested it (Aguma)  and its perfect. God showed me a certain tree and certain people. We have found the cure for HIV and Aids ‘ Magaya announced in his church. The cure was developed from a plant called Aguma which is found in Zimbabwe. This was mixed with a different herb from Mozambique with the help of some Indian Doctors  with whom he has formed a company called Aretha Medical. Magaya said they have developed the cure to be administered in patients in the form of tablets and capsules.

The  Zimbabwe National Network of People! Living with HIV and Aids (ZNPP+)  in response to the ‘Magaya Claims’ appealed for patience as they ascertain the validity of these c!aims.

“Naturally, the news of a ‘ cure’ will bring relief to the over 1.4  million PLHIV in Zimbabwe particularly PLHIV who have been on treatment for a prolonged period of time. We urge PLHIV to continue to take their antiretroviral treatment as prescribed to prevent an upsurge in their viral load and potential treatment resistance ” said ZNNP+.

Some people said that Prophet Walter Magaya should have mastered the art of health communication on how one should communicate a health invention. Maybe he should have waited and made rigorous clinical tests before communicating to the public.

Trials of traditional medicines carried out on people living with HIV and Aids in Zimbabwe have proved effective in alleviating some symptoms of the disease paving way for traditional healers to play an integral role in the response to HIV and Aids.
