Gaika mining activities a recipe for environment disaster

Since the opening of Gaika Mine in Kwekwe a few weeks ago, there has been a catastrophic environment damage, which has impacted negatively on the environment, as the mine was opened without the required valid documents including Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) from Environment Management Agency. The incessant blasting taking place at the mine has resulted in residential buildings nearby shaking and developing cracks in the process. The blasting has also claimed lives as most of the miners are unskilled in the use of explosives stipulated by EMA. The forcibly mining activities at the mine have taken political connotations, as EMA advice on the environment impact has had negative effects on the environment. The High Court has ruled out that the forcibly taking over of Gaika Mine by Vongainashe Mupereri be reversed forthwith.
