Tourism boom engulfs Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe Council for Tourism rebranded

Zimbabwe Council for Tourism  recently celebrated 30th anniversary,  marking three decades of service to the travel and tourism  sector, and also changing the name to Tourism Business Council for Zimbabwe. The ZCT was created in 1988 to provide a voice for the operators in the travel and tourism sector, providing a means by which matters of relevance and importance  involving the entire sector could be handled.  This helped to improve and increase communication between travel and tourism sector operators and various stakeholders, including government, media and the wider business community.  In a statement  by the President of the Tourism  Business  Council of Zimbabwe, Tich Hwingwiri during a recent media briefing said ZCT has undertaken a vast portfolio of work and had achieved enormous success in many areas.

“Key to that success has been the willingness of so many operators to give off their time to serve in sub committees, the Board and Executive Committee. We have also been fortunate to have had the services of a number of people on the staff who have completely followed up on all action required from deliberation of elected members”., said Hwingwiri. He also said there has been a genuine resurgence of this sector last year with increased arrivals in Zimbabwe  and income generation for the first time in two decades.

The rebranding has seen Zimbabwe Council for Tourism changing name to Tourism Business Council of Zimbabwe (TBCZ)  to enable the organization to communicate as the voice of the business in Travel and Tourism sector and open new links with such bodies like Tourism Business Council of South Africa. TBCZ is now focusing on the coming 30 years, with the goal of serving the sector, giving a voice and the vision of a travel  and tourism sector that is sustainable, successful and effective.  The TBCZ will play a valuable role in ensuring that public and private sectors work together and in communicating the views, ideas, suggestions and demands of the operators.
